1610 Vice-Admiral Thomas Rainsborough (6 July 1610 â 29 October 1648), or Rainborowe, was a prominent figure in the English Civil War and the leading spokesman for the Levellers in the Putney Debates.
1736 Daniel Morgan (July 6, 1736 â July 6, 1802) was an American pioneer, soldier, and politician from Virginia. One of the most respected battlefield tacticians of the American Revolutionary War of 1775â1783, he later commanded troops during the suppression of the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791â1794.
1747 John Paul Jones (born John Paul; July 6, 1747 â July 18, 1792) was a Scottish-American naval captain who was the United States’ first well-known naval commander in the American Revolutionary War. He made many friends among U.S political elites (including John Hancock and Benjamin Franklin), as well as enemies (who accused him of piracy), and his actions in British waters during the Revolution earned him an international reputation which persists to this day. As such, he is sometimes referred to as the “Father of the American Navy”.
1832 Maximilian I (German: Ferdinand Maximilian Joseph Maria von Habsburg-Lothringen, Spanish: Fernando Maximiliano José MarÃa de Habsburgo-Lorena; 6 July 1832 â 19 June 1867) was an Austrian archduke who reigned as the only Emperor of the Second Mexican Empire from 10 April 1864 until his execution on 19 June 1867. A younger brother of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, Maximilian had a distinguished career as commander-in-chief of the Imperial Austrian Navy.
1879 Gunther Adolf Burstyn (6 July 1879 in Bad Aussee, Steiermark â 15 April 1945 in Korneuburg, Lower Austria) was an inventor, technician, and officer of the Austro-Hungarian Army. He is best known for his Motorgeschütz, the first detailed concept of a modern tank.
1946 George Walker Bush (born July 6, 1946) is an American politician and businessman who served as the 43rd president of the United States from 2001 to 2009. A member of the Republican Party, Bush previously served as the 46th governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000. He was born into the Bush family; his father, George H. W. Bush, was the 41st president of the United States from 1989 to 1993. After graduating from Yale University in 1968, George W. Bush joined the Texas Air National Guard’s 147th Fighter Group at Ellington Field, completed Air Force flight training, and served as an F-102 fighter pilot before he left the Guard in 1973.
