John Glenn (John Herschel Glenn, Jr.) Died December 8, 2016 b. 1921 American astronaut, U.S. Senator (1974-99, D-Ohio). He was the first American to orbit the Earth (1962), one of the original Mercury Seven test pilots selected to become America’s first astronauts (1959).
