Today marks the 326th anniversary of the first European military action in he Rochester area. In 1687, Marquis de Denonville sailed from Montreal with a force of French-Canadian troops and landed in Irondequoit bay. Their goal was to punish the Seneca Indians for raiding French settlements in the new world. After burning several Iroquois villages in what in now south-east Rochester the French retreated back to Canada.
