Welcome to the Military History Society of Rochester. We are dedicated to preserving military history and honoring those who served. By entering the museum grounds or engaging with our digital content, you agree to the following terms of stewardship and safety.
1. Admission and the “Honor System”
- At-Will Donations: We do not charge a fixed admission fee because we believe military history belongs to the public. Your donations directly fund the preservation of artifacts and the sharing of veteran stories. All donations are final and non-refundable.
- Respect the Mission: We reserve the right to escort any individual from the premises whose behavior is inconsistent with a respectful, commemorative environment.
2. Safety and “The Heavy Metal” Rules
Military artifacts (tanks, aircraft, artillery) are inherently industrial and can be hazardous if misused.
- No Climbing: Unless an exhibit is explicitly marked as “Open for Boarding” or “Interactive,” please do not climb on, under, or inside vehicles or hardware.
- Sharp Edges & Heavy Parts: Many artifacts have original industrial components. Please watch your step and keep children within arm’s reach at all times.
- Deactivated Artifacts: All weaponry on display has been rendered inert/safe. For the safety of all guests, no outside weapons (concealed or otherwise) are permitted on museum grounds.
3. Conduct and Reverence
- Honor the Fallen: Many of our displays represent the lives and sacrifices of real individuals. We ask that you maintain a level of decorum appropriate for a memorial space.
- Prohibited Behavior: Profanity, disruptive shouting, or any behavior that disrespects the service of veterans will result in immediate removal.
4. Photography and Media
- Personal Tribute: You are welcome to take photos and video for personal use and social sharing.
- Professional Equipment: The use of tripods, drones, or professional lighting rigs is prohibited without a written “Media Pass” from the Museum Director.
- Commercial Use: Images of our unique artifacts or veteran portraits may not be used for commercial merchandise or political campaigning without express written consent.
5. Limitation of Liability
- Assumption of Risk: By entering, you acknowledge that a military museum contains large, heavy, and vintage equipment. You assume all risks associated with being in proximity to these items. [Museum Name] is not liable for any injuries or property damage incurred during your visit.
- Personal Belongings: We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. (Check your “six” before you leave a gallery!).
6. Intellectual Property
All research, oral histories, and educational materials produced by the museum are the property of [Museum Name]. We encourage their use for educational purposes, provided the museum is properly cited.
