1623 AertJansse van Nes (1626 â 13 or 14 September 1693) was a 17th-century Dutch naval commander, notable for commanding the second squadron in the raid on the Medway in 1667. He was born at Rotterdam. Three modern ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy have been named after him – a destroyer in 1931, a frigate in 1966 and a multipurpose frigate (F833) in 1992.
Laurent de Gouvion Saint-Cyr, 1st Marquis of Gouvion-Saint-Cyr (13 April 1764 â 17 March 1830) was a French commander in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars who rose to Marshal of the Empire and Marquis .
1808 Henry Haywood Bell (13 April 1808 â 11 January 1868) was an admiral in the United States Navy. In the American Civil War, he took part in the liberation of New Orleans and the lower Mississippi. Later he was sent to the Far East to command the East India Squadron. In summer 1867, he led a punitive expedition to avenge the Rover incident, where American sailors had been killed by Taiwanese aborigines. In January of the next year, while trying to force the Japanese to accept trade concessions, he drowned when his boat overturned in bad weather.

Adams served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942. However, he contracted blackwater fever, a serious complication of malaria, known for a 90% fatality rate and was hospitalized for more than a year in New Zealand. After his recovery, he served as a Marine drill instructor in the U.S.
