1790 Manuel José Blanco y Calvo de Encalada (April 21, 1790 â September 5, 1876) was a vice-admiral in the Chilean Navy, a political figure, and Chile’s first President (Provisional) (1826). Born in Buenos Aires which was the capital of the Viceroyalty of the RÃo de la Plata, Blanco Encalada was the son of the Spanish Manuel Lorenzo Blanco Cicerón and of the Chilean Mercedes Calvo de Encalada y Recabarren. He was trained for the navy in Spain. Later, during the Chilean War of Independence, he joined the Chilean forces, where he served with distinction under Lord Cochrane and rose to rank of Vice-Admiral and commander of the Chilean forces in (1825), where he participated in the capture of Chiloé. The following year, Congress elected him to the newly established position of President of the Republic. He soon had several fights with Congress, which was trying to install a federalist system, and resigned within two months.
1803 Rear Admiral Levin Minn Powell was the son of Alfred Powell and Sydney Thruston. He assisted in founding the Naval Academy in Annapolis and was commissioned a Commodore in the U.S. Navy in 1862 and a Rear Admiral in 1869.
1834 William Rufus Terrill (April 21, 1834 â October 8, 1862) was a United States Army soldier and general who was killed in action at the Battle of Perryville during the American Civil War. His Confederate brother James was also killed during the same war, making the Terrills one of the few sets of American brothers killed in action while commanding brigades.
1852 Alberto Pollio (April 21, 1852 â July 1, 1914)was an Italian general. He served as Chief of Staff of the Royal Army between 1908 and 1914. Competent and cultured officer, he was genuinely in favour of the Triple Alliance.
1926 Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in February 1945, she was appointed as an honorary second subaltern in the Auxiliary Territorial Service with the service number of 230873. She trained as a driver and mechanic and was given the rank of honorary junior commander (female equivalent of captain at the time) five months later.
1970 Rob Riggle is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and served in Liberia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan. He is a public affairs officer with the New York City Public Affairs unit and is a recipient of the Combat Action Ribbon.
