“My orders say I’m not supposed to know where I’m taking this boat, so I don’t!” “We’re going up river about 75 klicks above the Do Lung bridge”
Loosely based on the 1899 short story by Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness. This anti war movie set in Vietnam premiered in the United States on 15 Aug 1979.
The film centered around a Navy PBR conducting a clandestine mission during the Vietnam War. For many people it was their first exposure to this craft and the riverine aspect of the conflict. At the Historical Society we are fortunate enough to have a 1:6 scale model of a PBR. It was constructed by the Model Shipwrights of Western New York, a fine scale modeling and research group. To see this and many other models stop by the Society Thursday, Friday, or Saturday 12-4 and first Fridays 12-9.
