Blas de Lezo y Olavarrieta (3 February 1689 â 7 September 1741) was a Spanish admiral best remembered for the Battle of Cartagena de Indias (1741) in modern-day Colombia, where Spanish imperial forces under his command resisted a siege by a large British invasion fleet under Admiral Edward Vernon. He has lately been promoted as one of the best strategists in naval history.
Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr von Seydlitz (3 February 1721 â 8 November 1773 ) was a Prussian officer, lieutenant general, and among the greatest of the Prussian cavalry generals. He commanded one of the first Hussar squadrons of Frederick the Great’s army and is credited with the development of the Prussian cavalry to its efficient level of performance in the Seven Years’ War.

Joseph Eggleston Johnston (February 3, 1807 â March 21, 1891) was an American career army officer, serving with distinction in the United States Army during the MexicanâAmerican War (1846â1848), and Seminole Wars. After Virginia seceded from the Union, he entered the Confederate States Army as one of its most senior general officers.
