Calico Jack was a famous pirate during the Golden Age of Piracy in the early 18th century. He captained several vessels, most notably the Kingston, if only briefly. His piratical career only lasted two years before his sloop was captured and he was executed on 18 November 1720. Jack is most famous for being the first to fly the jolly roger flag and having had two female companions as pirates, his lover Anne Bonny, and Mary Read. He met Bonny in New Providence in 1719 after having received a pardon for his previous piracy; she was married at the time but joined his crew, along with Read, then disguised as a male. rochestermilitary.com
